Senior Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Manager
Full time position - Plymouth
We are looking for an experienced senior laboratory technician / career step laboratory manager to take responsibility for basic geotechnical testing and soils logging within the company marine soils lab and to train and supervise a small team of graduate marine geologists in applied marine site investigation testing techniques
Hours or work are 8.30- 5.30 pm Monday to Friday
The role will include but is not limited to:
•Full time laboratory based geotechnical core logging and basic testing of marine sediments
•Lead on reviewing existing processes and initiating any amendments in planning, setting up and undertaking routine technical tasks accurately and following strict methodologies.
•Book in samples to enable them to be stored ready for testing.
•Undertake sample preparation to enable them to be tested in accordance with documented lab procedures.
•Undertake physical testing of samples in accordance with documented lab procedures and relevant standards
•Factual recording of data and completion of test sheets and reports with attention to detail paramount
•Keeping all laboratory areas clean and maintaining a tidy and safe work environment.
•Keeping equipment maintained, calibrated, clean and in a serviceable condition.
•Supervise and provide guidance to graduate marine geologists working in the laboratory

Provide input to develop capabilities of laboratory in line with business development and market areas
•Ability and interest to work offshore will be useful but not essential
To be successful in this role the applicant will:
Possess relevant experience in logging & reporting to BS 1377-2: 1990 and Eurocode Standards
Be highly organised & flexible with an attention to detail & an ability to prioritise
Have strong technical writing & IT skills, especially in Excel
Be fluent in English, other languages may be of benefit
Possess strong social & communicative skills to engage and work in a small but growing enthusiastic team
Self- motivated and able to work under pressure, unsupervised and to strict deadlines
Have a full driving licence (UK)
